Completed Our Opening Sequence

We have finished editing our opening sequence, we put all the credits in and it looked really well and also the music created the correct atmosphere for the movie  as it really shows the genre, we did have some trouble with sound but we got it sorted out, I've very happy with the work that we have accomplished.

Thursday 21 March 2013

Sound

For the sound that we're going to use in our opening, we decided to use websites that have copyright free music, so that we don't get into trouble, we found very good sound clips that matched our videos. But we have to make sure that our movie is completely finished so that we don't need to redo it if the sound doesn't match. Sound will be completed tomorrow.

Putting Our Titles

In today's lesson we created the titles for the opening, we had a few issues as the "LiveType" was very slow to load, but it got the job done, when we fist made the titles and inserted them into the video we found out that the text appeared to be very quickly so we had to recreate them but make them much more slower so that the viewer is able to view them.

Wednesday 20 March 2013

Progress 20/03/13

Our clips have been edited, now we're working on the audio and the titles (text), due to the macs not loading the program we couldn't work on the titles so we started to work on the audio, our teacher said not to edit any of the audio with the video, because if she felt that we might need to edit the clips we have to edit the audio again so it saves us time.

Editing Day 2

Today me and libby started to edit our opening. The first thing we did was continue to rename our footage and then we started to pick which clips we're going to use, I was very happy with the results as we got a lot done. At the same time we started to brainstorm ideas for sound and the effects that we're going to be using.

Thursday 7 March 2013

Credit Sequence

I will analyse the opening sequence for the move 17 again i will be looking at the credit they use, the reason for this is so that i can gain some ideas when I'm going to make my own credits.

17 again opens in a very creative way as its showing a yearbook with the students pictures when they were in school going along with the whole theme of being 17 again, it shows the people in the credits and what they looked like in school at the age of 17.

ART of the Title

The Art of the opening title in a movie is very important, and what makes the title is the colour, font animation and how it represents the movie and if it matches the genre or not. The title is one of the first thing that the viewer is going to see, so it has to be attractive for the viewer to continue watching the movie, so first impressions are very important.

As you can see for the movie Back to the future the test that says "Back" scrolls backwards and then "To the future" fades below it, at the same time the entire text is glowing in neon to give it the time travelling feel. Also the sound you can hear is clocks ticking in the background to go with the theme of time travelling.

Movie title

As a group we all agreed on the name of our film to be "The Resistance" as it made the most sense out of the list that we created for our potential film names, the reason we called it The Resistance because at the end of the movie the girl is trying to resist getting killed and her hand is grabbing on.

Thoughts on progress

I think that we are doing good as a group, we have filmed everything that we needed we have started to create our logo and the credits, we just need to start on sound and finish editing our clips.

Making Our Movie title

Today Me and libby started to create our title for our opening sequence, we picked the movie title "The Resistance" we played around with the affects and changed the colours to Red to risible blood.

Editing And Sorting Out The Videos

In today's lesson we continued to sort out the videos seeing which ones were good and which ones we needed to re shoot we wrote down a list to make sure we get everything done when we go and shoot again , we also started to edit our clips as we need to show what we have produced to the class this Thursday.

Thursday 31 January 2013

Title Sequences

The first title that i will be looking at is Friday the 13th move title, the color is all red to emphasize blood and danger, also it has its own font to create that unique look, another thing that i found is that all the letters are capital to make it stand out.

For the second title that I looked at is "The Ring" as you can see it uses a white text and a font that looks like it been hand written with a circle around the ring as in the the is inside a ring, a thing that i found is that all the letters are small letters to make it seem like its been written by a kid.

For the third title that i looked at is "Paranormal Activity" they use red text with all capital letters with a shadow of all the letters in the background to make it seem like a static effect which is used a lot in the movies, and also the use of the colour read identifies that it's a horror film as red usually means danger, blood, evil.

Editing Our Footage Day 1

We put all the clips that we filmed on to Final cut pro, to see how our footage flowed when it was played all together,  we found out that some clips were not as good as we thought so we have to re shoot them, also we changed the titles of the clips just to make editing easier so that we know what clip is what by the time to save up time.

Filming day 26/01/2013

Today on the 26/01/2013 me, Rosie and Libby filmed our opening sequence, we had the help from Rosie's 3 friends to act in the opening, the opening took as hours to filmed, we used  Rosie's cabin as our location, we followed the story bored but we had to adjust a few changes as we filmed. I feel as if we did a good job today we followed the story bored pretty well and got everything done. I think think that we could of filmed a few more shots just encase we needed them when we start editing.

Questionnaire Results

(Click On the pictures to enlarge)

For the results that I have achieved  it has given me a better idea of what people like and what they dislike so I can keep that in mind when I create my opening. for example 9/10 of the people that i asked both boys and girls don't watch British films and 6/10 people think that the horror genre is good.

Wednesday 23 January 2013

Research: Audience Questioner

This is the questioner that i made which i will be using to gain the answers to complete my research.

  • Most action films use very interesting locations where the characters have to survive  with extremes of climate, as well as evil forces. this was it makes the film more interesting for the audience and to keep them on the edge of their seat.but at the same time the locations have to be realistic.

  • John Rambo, a troubled Vietnam War veteran
  • Darth Vader as the main protaginist in the star wars films

Music/Sound:
  • Sound is very important as it creates the correct atmosphere you would hear this all depends on the scene so for example if its a car chase you would want quick music to engage the audience or if its a sad moment for example a characters dies you would have sad music to reflect the emotions.

Camera movement:
  • Handheld camera movements is used  when they want to create the effect of being in the charecters shoes to give the first person view, the movement is very shaky.
  • For a horror movie they use allot of jump cuts to create a fast cuts to create a jump factor or to get a reaction out of the audience.
Characters:
  • With the research that i have done i have found out that certain characters are the main way that people recognize the movie.
  • Chucky from (Child's Play) is a killer doll

Representation: Men and Women in Horror Movies

In horror movies women are usually seen as the weak characters that get attracted by the monster/killer where they always need to be rescued by the men who are seen as the heroes in the horror genre, but that is not the case in all horror movies as some movies like "scream" where the main protagonist is a girl by the name sidney she's the final girl that the killer faces as she last till the end of the film, this shows that females can be represented as strong characters that can take care of them selves. But if the main protagonist is a male they end up getting killed, also in horror movies they have sets of groups where you have the girls and  the boys, most of the boys and girls are just there to be killed. Men are usually the bad guys or the killers as they seem to have the most power but in some films they have a twist where they make the viewer thing its a man the whole time but it tends up being a girl to give the shock value.

Research Into Similar Media Text: Camera

Paranormal activity 3 uses very shakey camera work as it try's to give the audience the experience of viewing the movie from a first person view to give it a more realistic feeling and to build up atmosphere as you're viewing it from the actors prospective. you also get to hear the voice of the actor very well so what they're feeling translates very well, so that the audience get to put in the actors shoes. seeing footsteps or seeing something move from a first person view only adds in the realism and builds tension massively, this is one of the main reason that Paranormal activity is so successful.

Target Audience: Horror

Since this film is based on the genre of horror, the paranormal film will be built on a basis to form suspense, to create intense moments and build up with many thrill-like scenes throughout the film, that produces both a sense of fear; intense horror within a person, yet excitement at the same time. Research has shown that people who watch horror movies seek thrill motions, but also gain excitement from it, it’s the horror that makes the movie terrifying but exciting at the same time. Therefore, the general target audience would range from 15-24 year old males, as they are generally the more masculine audience who seek and watch the movies that are more action packed or contain more terrifying experiences, the movies are built and set to specify towards the general young adult male, because of the content within it. Whilst this isn’t entirely accurate as whiles society grow, figures have shown a huge increase in females attending to watch horror movies, even sometimes exceeding the male viewers, this illustrates that because of the content within a horror movie: The scenes that send shocks down your spine and the thrill that keeps you at the edge of your chai; yet the character development and overall excitement gained from the movie is targeted at the young adults in the world, as stated ranging from 15-24 years old.

Research Into Similar Media Text: Editing

In the movie "The forth kind" they use a lot of static TV editing to transition scenes, also they're using the camera to record the victims so its a perfect complement, the use standard white text it slowly fades away and a new text takes its place.

Tuesday 1 January 2013

Location Pictures

The location of my opening would be in my friends house as that's what I based my plot on, his house is big and perfect for the opening, it has everything that i need to shoot the opening, as you can see below.

I also think if the movie was shot at night it would create a much better atmosphere for the movie, as its big so we could use many camera angle due to having a lot of space and freedom.

Storyboard

Here is my storyboard showing each frame and what's happening in each and the shots I'll be using.
(Click on the pictures to enlarge)

My Idea

A family was killed almost a 20 years ago and there were reports of the house being haunted. No one has moved in or gone near the house until some teenagers moved in for their friends Ryan's 18th birthday. They have to either leave, die, or find some possible way to find the thing the family is look for, the family wont stop till they kill everyone that enters their house.
